Great. My first journal entry and it's when I'm pissed....

peeve
verb

1.  (transitive) to irritate; vex; annoy

noun

2.  something that irritates; vexation:

We all have them...they're those little daily occurrences that irritate. You know, the things people say, the things they do or how they act. These irritating occurrences, with repetition, are referred to as “pet peeves”. At first, a peeve can be tolerable with little, if any, change to your good mood. However, when the peeve enters a state of repetition, there is an inevitable shift in one’s good mood and perspective.

I don’t have many “pet peeves”. But, I’ve found one irritation in particular that has evolved into a pet peeve over the one year that I’ve been within the realm of DA. This peeve stems from the way some Group Administrators/Founders treat their members (the contributors) and their work.

I put a lot of time and effort into each piece I do. Each piece will typically take a minimum of 12-15 hours; some as much as several weeks. Now, I’ll acknowledge that each group has a list of rules for submission and I’ll abide by these rules. But, for the Group Administrator/Founder (or whatever you want to call them) to repeatedly allow submissions to either expire or to decline submissions without reason is totally unacceptable.

From a contributor perspective, Mr./Ms. Group Administrator, you should actually be kissing the contributor-ass for their submissions. You see, the contributors don’t really need you. But, on the other hand, you certainly need an uninterrupted flow of contributions from the membership to make the group what it is.

So, I say to you, Mr./Ms. Group Administrators/Founders:

  • If you let my submissions expire more than once, you can stick my group membership where the sun don’t shine.
  • If you decline my submissions without having the common decency for explaining why…you can kiss my ass.

‘nuff said,

Just found your site, so please pardon my lateness in commenting on issue -
I totally agree - letting submissions die on the vine and/or denying them with out any explanation is counter to the goals of a learning, growing arts community.:) (Smile)
